“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love…Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves…those who walk in pride He is able to humble…Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience…Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”
Ephesians 4:2; Philippians 2:3; Daniel 4:37; Colossians 3:12; 1 Peter 5:6

A very dangerous enemy lurks in the shadows – pride.
Pride will do you in – every time!
Never will pride bring you to gain. World glory is temporary and soon followed by destruction. It will smile and lure and then trap and kill.
I urge you; do not succumb to this temptation. The world is full of messaging which entices you to take credit, to become full of yourself, to be first no matter the cost. Don’t! I tell you truly, the cost is too high.
Instead, give away credit.
Share the compliment and always – always – always remember all you have accomplished has been made possible and allowed by God in order to build and glorify His kingdom for all … for all … for all.
Your turn …
Take inventory.
What are your successes?
Do you need compliments in order to function – in order to move forward?
Compliments about what? Your physical beauty, accomplishments, abilities, ideas, talents…?
Now, know your worth as defined by the Lord and take all your accomplishments to Him in gratitude and humility.
Now, pray with all your heart …
“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory. Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your Name, I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips, my mouth will praise You. On my bed I remember You; I think of You through the watches of the night. Because You are my help, I sing in the shadow of Your wings. I cling to You; Your right hand upholds me.”
Psalm 63:1-8
“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land…When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom…Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
2 Chronicles 7:14; Proverbs 11:2, 22:4
Abba Father blesses your humility.
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
Open Hearts Retreat is coming! Registration opens February 1st!
