“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up
according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen…Offer hospitality to one another without
grumbling.”
Ephesians 4:29;1 Peter 4:9
Why You Need to Stop Complaining So Much!
Whining and complaining are aggravating and very unattractive.
Here is the question for you?
Do others say this about you – that you are grateful and appreciative?
“You have planted much, but harvested little. Indeed, you eat but never have enough. And, you drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
Haggai 1:6
“These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.”
Jude 1:16
Be a daughter of gladness and praise, one of encouragement and victory instead of one who whines and complains.
Your turn …
No lists today but instead an assignment of intentional behavior modification.
Every time you even begin to think to whine or complain – STOP – praise instead!
With focused intent, you can make praising a staple in your testimony.
Sit awhile and humbly pray,
“LORD, You alone are my portion and my cup; You make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at
night, my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With Him at my right hand, I will not be
shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because You will
not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will You let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me
the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.
Psalm 16:5-11
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God
without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as
you hold firmly to the word of life.”
Philippians 2:14-16
God loves our gratitude and thankful spirits!
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
