“Jesus wept…Bitterly she weeps at night, tears are on her cheeks…This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears. No one is near to comfort me, no one to restore my spirit… The hearts of the people cry out to the LORD. Your walls of Daughter Zion, let your tears flow like a river day and night; give yourself no relief, your eyes no rest…
Streams of tears flow from My eyes because My people are destroyed… The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe… He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
John 11:35; Lamentations 1:2,16, 2:18, 3:48; Proverbs 18:10; Revelation 21:4
When you hurt, God hurts
God feels your pain and sees your tears.
When you hurt, God hurts.
He wants so much for you. Each of your tears is held close to His heart.
Your tears will never be forgotten and one Day, they will be made right and there will be no more.
Your turn …
Repeat until you have memorized and believe with all your heart … “I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry.” Psalm 40:1
Now, pray …
“Be merciful to me, my God…When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose Word I praise – in God, I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?… Record my misery; list my tears on Your scroll – are they not in Your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. with this, I will know that God is for me. In God, whose Word I praise, In the LORD, whose Word I praise.
In God, I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to Me? I am under vows to You, my God; I will present my thank offerings to You. You have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life…
Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them… For You, LORD, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears. You delivered my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living.”
Psalm 56:1,3-4,8-13; 126:5-6; 116:8-9
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds…
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit… ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears;… Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end…
On this mountain, the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain He will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove His people’s disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.”
Psalm 147:3, 34:18; 2 Kings 20:5; Isaiah 60:20, 25:6-8
God sees your tears and is near when you are in pain!
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
When you hurt, God hurts
