“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart…Do not fear, for I have
redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be
with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the
fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of
Israel, your Savior…Since you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you…”
Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 43:1-4
What Happens When We Know We Belong to God
God did not take such special care in creating you to then abandon you.
No, you are God’s. You are His special treasure and you are safely placed in His heart forever. You may walk away from God but never will He leave you.
No one owns you. Nothing owns you. God does not lie.
In the world you live, it may look and seem like someone or something enslaves you. But this is a worldly illusion…a temporary mindset. You get to choose whom you believe – Father God or the world. This is your choice.
Your turn
Take some time to on paper or in your mind list those persons or things you mistakenly believe bind you – own you.
Now in BOLD red, cover each item with the truth of whom you belong to. Choose whatever Name or
Names tender your heart and build your confidence … God, Abba, Savior, Jesus …
Now, daughter, keep that red marker handy and use it regularly to remind you whom you belong to.
Sit still for some moments, relax and tenderly pray …
“The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, which does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
They will receive a blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors that the King of glory may come in. Who is He, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty— He is the King of glory.” Psalm 24 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!… Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are people and the sheep of His pasture…For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as (daughters), by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Isaiah 49:15; Psalm 100:3; Romans 8:15
Your Father cherishes you!
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
