Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Reading that, I think to myself, I want to bear much fruit in my life, so I need to remain in Him, right? But what does that really mean and what gets in the way of “remaining” in Him?

What does remain in Him even mean?

It means waiting on the Lord and entering His peace.

To rest, remain, wait and then continue.

To me, it also means spending time praying and reading His word and finding that space in my life where I can just “listen” to Him rather than listening to the static confusion coming from the world.

In order to hear from Him, I need to remove strongholds in my life that distract me.

What am I always thinking about, if it’s not God? Do I have a habit that doesn’t serve me well?

What is controlling the direction of my life?

Who is speaking to me in my free time?

What am I addicted to?

Fasting from something is a spiritual discipline with the intent to become closer to God and “remain” in Him. To be on the same page. To not have a barrier between you and Him.

Do we have breakthroughs and blessings when we fast? Often times, YES. Amazing blessings and breakthroughs.

Can we fast for an answer or direction we are seeking in our life? YES, absolutely!

When we take something out of our life that we are addicted to, instead of fretting or reaching for whatever that is (auto-pilot for many of us), we spend those moments of angst praying and thanking God.

He will get us through those moments–His strength, not ours but also, when we take away those things, we’re removing something that was getting in the way of our relationship with God.

What is in your life right now that you feel led to fast from for 40 days?

If you removed it, do you have faith that God would do something big in your life (and that may even mean that you grow closer to Him instead of get the answer you’re waiting for)?

I don’t know a single person that did a spiritual fast that didn’t have some kind of breakthrough in their life. Not one of them regretted fasting and they all do it off and on, continuously throughout the year.

We invite you to join us on a 40 day fast starting on March 12th. You’ll receive your first email on Ash Wednesday, March 6th but the fast starts on the 12th.

What does this cost?

This is FREE.

Will you join us?

We know God is doing INCREDIBLE things with beLydia and we can’t wait to see what He does during this fast!

Here’s some more information:

When does the fast start?

The official start date is March 12th–40 days out from Easter so our last day of fasting is the 20th!

What do I do in the meantime?

  1. Sign up here!

You’ll receive a confirmation email and once you’ve confirmed your email address, you’ll receive a Welcome email.

You’ll then receive your first beLydia FAST email on the 6th with an invitation to join the private Facebook group but we start on the 12th.

What to expect?

You’ll receive a daily email with a Devotion and question for reflection (that you can journal).

We are going to share a couple of our meal plans to give you some ideas.

A daily recipe that we recommend.

What should you give up on your fast?

We will each have something different to give up and a different reason or motivation for our fast.

Maybe we’ve become addicted to something, or perhaps we’ve gotten stuck in a habit that doesn’t serve us well.

Whatever you’re choosing to fast from, this community will be there to support you!

Here are some ideas for fasting:

Food: gluten, dairy, sugar, eggs, meat, poultry, processed food, soda, grains, nightshades, nuts, coffee

A “Daniel Fast” is inspired by Daniel 1:8-14 where Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah ate nothing but vegetables and water. Some people add fruits, seeds, nuts but no grains, meat, wine, dairy.

The “Daniel Plan” is what Saddleback church, Dr. Mark Hymel and Dr. Amen created where it’s “clean” eating but not necessarily meat free or grain free. It’s healthy, whole food with less restrictions.

Online: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube

TV: all TV, Netflix, News, specific shows

Spending!

Amazon

Books/Magazines: anything trashy, gossipy, or mindless; romance novels

And maybe for all of us fasting (and ideally giving up entirely): complaining, bitterness, gossip, judgment.

Prayer goals

What are your intentions for your prayer time during this fast? Are you fasting for answers to a question? Good health for you, a family member or a friend? Direction for your career? Reconciliation with someone? To break a stronghold/addiction/obsession?

Just a few things to think about before starting!
