“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God… A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without Him, who can eat or find enjoyment?… So I commend the enjoyment of life because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad.
Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun… This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.”
Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, 2:24-25, 8:15, 5:18-20
How to more regularly enjoy your day
Are you enjoying your days?
Relax!
Enjoy today.
Today is a gift and is to be enjoyed.
Be thankful for your today.
Yes, problems swirl around you. Every day in the world will be filled with problems.
Take hold of the joy God has for you and enjoy today despite the problems and evil in the world.
Your turn…
Step away, maybe outside.
Look around, see past your problems and the difficulties of the world, take a breath and be thankful for all the little things and big things that make you smile and bring joy to your life.
Begin and end and throughout today and all your tomorrows – do this and enjoy all of your days.
Now in your moment of joy, pray …
“The LORD did this, and it is wonderful to us. This is the day that the LORD has made. Let us rejoice and be glad today! Please, LORD, save us; please, LORD, give us success.”
Psalm 118:23-25
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
God wants you to live a life filled with enjoyment and joy!
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
