“For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God… –for you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God–… do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
Deuteronomy 4:24; Exodus 34:14; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Bible verses about the jealousy of God
The world does such an evil job of misdefining words…being jealous of something that I declare to belong to you is good and appropriate.
Jealousy is only a sin when it is a desire for something that does not belong to you.
Worship, praise, honor, and adoration belong to God alone, for only I am truly worthy of it.
And remember, you belong to God, also.
Don’t confuse righteous jealousy with envy of what belongs to another.
And so yes, God is jealous for you!
God fashioned you in His image – above all else He created.
He intends for you to spend eternity with Him.
God sacrificed His son … all for you in payment for your sin.
His jealous love for you is unfailing and unending. “Know that the LORD your God is God, the trusted God who faithfully keeps His covenant to the thousandth generation of those who love Him and obey His commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9
His jealousy is righteous and pure and for you.
Know it!
Believe it!
Embrace it!
Your turn …
Meditate for some moments about how you feel about what belongs to you in a relationship.
A desire to protect and hold close those you love is not wrong.
It is proof you are created in His image.
He loves you dearly.
This is so much of what makes up your calling…
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” 1 John 3:16
Now on bended knee, come and pray …
“Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and You have promised these good things to your servant… Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him…For the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.”
2 Samuel 7:28; Proverbs 30:5; Psalm 33:4
“For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin…I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. And, I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.”
2 Corinthians 11:2; Hosea 2:19-20
How to do this as a weekly Bible study
Day One: Experience
Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”
Day Two: Observe & Read
Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).
Day Three: Interpret
Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…..”
Day Four: Application
Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.
Day Five: Testify
Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
Would you like to get more involved in the beLydia Movement?
Parents and friends, there are kids being sold for sex right now and they are still going to school and their parents have no idea.
They are being tricked, (often through social media and texting apps) into sharing compromising photos and then trapped into selling more or are tricked into having sex.
WE CAN PREVENT THIS THROUGH SHARING AWARENESS.
