Empower young women

How to Empower Young Women in Your Community

These days with young women being exposed to the media’s idea of the “perfect body”, requirements for becoming a well-adjusted young lady and a slew of other boxes to check-off on their way into adulthood, it’s more important than ever that we empower the future generation — and what better way to start than in our own backyard?

If this sounds like something you want to get behind, you’ve come to the right place, friend!

Here are our three favorite ways to empower young women in our community.
1. Become a Mentor

98% of human trafficking victims are women — and many of them don’t even know it. The best ways to fight this? Education and being there for our girls so they know what they should and shouldn’t expect out of healthy relationships. In addition, helping these girls see themselves the way God sees them goes a long way in building confidence and self-esteem.  These two factors are key to preventing victimization and abuse. Forming a mentor/mentee relationship helps provide stability and gives these girls a standard of what an ideal relationship should look like.

2. Support Our Youth Program

Our Youth Program is centered around be3: our 7-week workshop enabling girls to be brave, be transformed and beLydia. The goal of this program so to help girls see themselves through God’s eyes while giving them basic life skills that help them see past obstacles.

Each class is interactive and allows the girls to not only discover who they are but find their voice. With classes covering such subjects as overcoming anxiety, living a healthy life and envisioning your dreams, we aim to assist these girls in becoming strong and dignified women.  The objective is that after graduation from this program, girls have what they need to become Proverbs 31 women.

be3 launches in the summer of 2018

3. Fundraise

In the Spring of 2019, beLydia will host its first ever youth retreat.  This three-day event will help girls dive deeper into their faith and connect with the Lord.  In addition, all year round beLydia hosts youth events for girls in foster care with the purpose of bringing normalcy.

Many children in the foster system have never experienced what other children do and it is our mission to bring joy through these types of events.  We will be hosting movie nights, bbqs and other events throughout Austin in order to build relationships with these girls. As beLydia is a nonprofit, funding these events and our be3 program becomes the responsibility of our supporting community.

As we work to create strong girls who will one day shape our society, we ask that you join us in ensuring our conference, events and programs are always available at no cost to them.
