What are Some of the Best Bible Verses about Generosity?

Be generous! Give your all!

“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be…

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed… One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered … Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his deed… Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice …

Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the LORD delivers him; the LORD protects him and keeps him alive… Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Deuteronomy 15:7-8; Proverbs 11:24-25,19:17; Psalm 112:5;41:1; Luke 12:33-34

What are Some of the Best Bible Verses about Generosity?

God really enjoys when His children share with one another.

And, it saddens Him to see selfishness. In fact, it gives Him great joy to give to you and others. He wants you to experience that joy.

Further, our heavenly Father takes pleasure in seeing us smile at the gifts He so richly gives us. Don’t miss the delight.

Give, give and give some more and then prepare to receive blessings beyond your imagination!

Your turn

Take stock of all you have.

Now look around and see the need around you.

Start with a family member who is in need or a friend and then give.

Give to a program in your church.

Find a need in your community and be generous. Enjoy the feeling of knowing you have brought a smile to someone else.

Generosity is a habit the Lord encourages.

Come and pray about generosity

“Teach me, LORD, the way of Your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Give me understanding, so that I may keep Your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of Your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward Your statutes and not toward selfish gain.

Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your Word. Fulfill Your promise to Your servant, so that You may be feared. Take away the disgrace I dread, for Your laws are good. How I long for Your precepts! In Your righteousness preserve my life.”

Psalm 119:33-40

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,

holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship… Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you…

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as (she) has decided in (her) heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work…

By this, we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the (sisters). But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees (her sister) in need, yet closes (her) heart against (her), how does God’s love abide in (her)? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

Romans 12:1; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8; 1 John 3:16-18

How to do this as a weekly Bible study

Day One: Experience

Read the entire devotion. Do any verses stand out to you? If so, write it down and work on memorizing it over the week. I personally love the app “Scripture Typer.”

Day Two: Observe & Read

Chain. Look up and chain verses (For example on how to chain verses, see this video).

Day Three: Interpret

Read through the chain of verses starting with the first one. What do they say? Do you notice when it says “never” or “always” or “If, but, however, therefore, all…”

Day Four: Application

Do “Your turn” and make a list of people that God has put on your heart when you read this.

Day Five: Testify

Who in your life, right now, can you share this with? There is somebody in your life that needs to hear this. Close your eyes. What name came to mind?
